Hesleden Dene - Hesleden
Postcard photograph entitled Hesleden Dene. No 2042 showing a stream in the middle of the photograph flowing away from the camera; on the banks of the stream two young girls can be seen indistinctly; on the right and left of the photograph, the banks of the stream and the surrounding slopes are covered on trees
Date: 1900 - 1909
This is part of the dene locals called the "flats" an area of meadow land at the bottom of the dene where locals used to picnic. The Stream (beck) wound its way onward past the flats, passing the side of the spoil heaps from Castle Eden Colliery which was the early name for Hesleden
